So you want to build a blog
And share all kinds of things you know
Like how to knit and how to fish
And cooking things like escargot
So you want to build a blog
And need to know just where to start
Like making titles, writing stuff,
And where to source the greatest art
I’ll teach you how to build a blog
Choose a domain that fits your brand
One that folks know how to spell
Not something from a Seuss-type land
I’ll show you other bloggy things
Like using WordPress for your site
There are, of course, some other ways
But WordPress is the one I like.
Some things to know about a blog
Are how to sort your content out
Categories, menus, tags
Exactly what I’m talking ‘bout
Categories – use with care
These should be broad and should be few
Like how you’d sort out recipes
Entrées, sides, and desserts, too
Tags you use for finding things
(Like searching for ingredients)
Finding details within posts
Minutiae with expedience
Menus are the biggest help
On top of page and top of mind
Send readers to the page they want
Nice and easy for them to find
Every post needs a title
Enticing your guests to want to read
It should state the essence of the post
And somehow show them what they need
Posts need to be sufficient length
Or Google will not notice them
And filled with content people like
Make every post a real gem
Make sure your content is your own
Text, ideas, and stuff that’s viewed
Creative commons is your jam
To make sure you are never sued
Then share to social media
So even more will see your site
And enjoy the content you create
And all the great stuff that you write
To keep a blog alive and well
Just keep it fed and up-to-date
Your fans will love and follow you
And everything that you create
